September 10/11, 2008

These two get lumped into one day, because from the perspective of Timmy and Daddy, they really are. We woke up at our normal time and went about the day normally until we had to leave for the airport, around noon. For the most part, the trip to the airport and onto the plane went uneventfully. We were at the airport early, but Timmy entertained himself by looking out the window at the planes and cars going by.
On the plane is another matter entirely.
The first 90 minutes of the 8-hour flight weren't too bad. Timmy was happy enough to eat graham crackers and look around at all the people. When Timmy got tired, all heck broke loose. I don't know if it was his cold, his diaper rash or teeth coming in, but something was keeping Timmy from sleeping. And when Timmy gets tired and can't sleep, he gets very, VERY cranky. For 3 hours, Timmy was a squirming, crying, screaming, kicking, scratching wreck. Absolutely nothing was working to keep him happy- not food or drink, not walking up and down the aisles, not singing or reading a book- nothing. Finally just shortly after halfway through the flight, Timmy must've just given up and watched some cartoons while he drifted off to sleep. This was a Godsend- he slept for about 2 hours and was more or less okay the rest of the flight.
Mommy was waiting for us in Frankfurt when we got here! Both Timmy and Daddy slept on the way home, plus about a 3 hour nap once we got here. Timmy went to bed early tonight, though- around 6:00. He still won't eat any vegetables, though he did do pretty well with his fish sticks!
