No-pacifier, day 1. Things went pretty well this morning- I don't think Timmy even noticed it was gone. Then came nap time. I put him down about a half-hour later than usual, hoping the extra time would make him a little more disposed toward sleeping peacefully, without a fight. I was wrong. After an hour and fifteen minutes of wailing and gnashing of teeth in the crib, while tossing his pillow, stuffed animals and blankets out after Daddy replaced them every 10 minutes, I brought him downstairs to calm him down a bit while watching some SportsCenter. Apparently watching yesterday's sports highlights was enough to knock him out cold within five minutes, and this picture is the result.
Timmy did something else surprising this morning. Without saying what he was doing (of course... he really couldn't, with a vocabulary of a few dozen single-syllable words), he started pushing the high chair out of the way, away from the wall under the cuckoo clock. At first, I thought he was just playing, but then he walked over to the kitchen chair and made as if he were trying to pull it out. He said, "Help", so I did.. pulling the chair out a little thinking he
wanted to crawl up on it to get at the table. Instead, he kept trying to pull and pull, until I picked up the chair for him, and he guided me to where he wanted it, right where the high chair was (before he moved it) and directly under the lightswitch. After the chair was down, Timmy proceeded to climb up on it and flip the light on and off. While some kids would just try to reach for the lightswitch and complain until they were picked up to play with it, Timmy was re-arranging furniture so he could just do it himself!
