It's tough to tell from the picture, but Timmy is sitting on his Elmo toilet. This was the first attempt from what promises to be a very, very, very long day of potty training, and unfortunately it met with no success. We're trying out Aunt Beth's 15-minute rule- another 10 to go until the next try. Until then, Timmy's wearing pull-ups, if for no other reason that it makes it much easier to get Timmy on the toilet quickly.
Update 9:28 a.m.: Well, we've been at it for 3 hours now, and we have a grand total of 2 accidents and no "hits". Timmy's not too patient on the toilet, but if you read him a book, he lasts a lot longer. He's down for an early nap, now- 3 wake-ups overnight and a 6:00 start to the morning added to the potty training made him tired and grouchy early. Hopefully he wakes up with a renewed enthusiasm for toilet training!
Update 4:11 p.m.: Nothing today. After many, many attempts and a one-hour-and-fourty-five-minute marathon sit-down (accompanied by books, singing, stuffed animals and the works), still nothing. And then I took him off the toilet. Two minutes later... BAM! a wet diaper. Still, progress has been made. Timmy asks for the "Big Boy Pants" now, which makes them a good reward for when he finally does go. Also, I think this means he has pretty good control over his bladder... I think he didn't know it was acceptable to pee on the toilet, and thus was holding it.

Tim's expression looks like he was taking a "hit" right then. Go, Tim!

I think the secret to potty training is a good reward system. The better the reward, the faster the training.
Savannah used to love to go outside and pee in the grass. Sam wanted M&Ms.

Good luck potty training.
