Holy Canole. So we have free internet access in our room. It's noon, now, in Tromso, Norway. We start running in 8 and a half hours and we all desperately need naps. I wrote the below part in the airport:
I’m writing this from the Oslo airport, nearing the end of our 8-hour overnight layover. So far, this trip has been the worst traveling experience yet. The flight to Oslo was 2 hours of listening to Timmy scream and watching him squirm on the airplane. Timmy has gone his longest yet between naps/sleeps- he woke up from his last nap at 2:00p.m. yesterday afternoon and finally went to sleep at 1:00a.m. this morning, after we had found a quiet corner of the airport to settle down in. Unfortunately, neither Mommy nor Daddy got much sleep. The chairs were wooden, so very uncomfortable. The place we had picked was above the train station, so it was cold, too. On top of all that, it was relatively loud and the sun only goes down for a couple hours each night. We landed 10 minutes before Midnight and had we been home, I would’ve said it was 9 p.m. The sun rose around 2:30.
Oslo airport is not fun. They don’t let you gate-check your stroller, here, so we had to check the stroller with the rest of our luggage and carry Timmy through security. It’s about 2 hours until our flight to Tromso. Fortunately, this gate is currently vacant so we’re letting Timmy crawl on a blanket on the floor a bit. He got a grand total of 3 ½ hours of sleep last night. We keep telling ourselves that we just have to make it to the hotel and everything will be alright. Once there, I’m sure Timmy will sleep for quite a while while Savannah and I catch up on some sleep ourselves. All this and the trip is less than 10 hours old. *sigh*
Update 2:56 p.m.: Savannah and I have checked in for the marathon. Now it's time to sleep. The blurry picture was taken of the North sky in Oslo at 1 am early this morning. It actually looked like that at midnight, too, but I didn't get the chance to snap a picture. That's Oslo- a full 24 hour drive south of where we are. I'll post a picture of the midnight sky tonight as soon as the race is done- expect it late this evening your time!
