Not-as-rough weekend ahead

Well, it looks like we're sleeping in the rental car this weekend. While trying to get driving directions from the airport to the hotel we booked, I found that Travelocity had booked us in a hotel a 23 hour drive away. The funny thing is, I could have sworn I saw where the hotel was on a map before booking it, and it was right near town. I guess it's a moot point, now. Any hotel in or near Tromso is going to cost $400 a night.
Apparently they have some gymnasium accomidations set up for runners who couldn't find a hotel room- I get a feeling we're going to at least try to get a bed in there. I'm not holding my breath, though. I guess it's a good thing the marathon is in the middle of the night. At least that's one night we don't have to worry about a room.

Update!: We managed to make a new hotel reservation in Tromso, so no car-sleeping for us! Now, I've just got the daunting task or cancelling the old hotel reservation the day before check-in.

Update, 42 minutes later: Yes- I have been on hold with Travelocity's customer service for 42 minutes and counting. All this waiting for no guarantee that they'll cancel the reservation for me. I'm spending the spare time looking up the world record for being on hold.

Another update: We're coming up on an hour of hold time! Hooray!

Last update: I had to hang up and call again- I used gethuman.com to give me the tip- hit ### when the menu options start and you'll get someone. It took awhile and I had to ask for someone's supervisor once, but they finally refunded the hotel amount. The guy said he'd do it this time, but next time, I'm out of luck. That suits me fine... there won't be a next time with Travelocity.
