I don't doubt the metaphorical truth behind Little Orphan Annie's assertation that the sun is only a day away. Unfortunately for us, I think that day is in the wrong direction. Yesterday was all smiles, laughs and playtime. Today is all frowns, screams and crying. This picture pretty much sums up our morning. I thought Timmy would wake up in a good mood this morning, though, because he slept 13 hours straight without a single wake-up in the middle. We put him down around 6:30 last night and he woke up around 7:30 this morning. This was not so, however. Since waking up, Timmy has been a constant grump. Even while eating, he wasn't happy. I put him down for an early nap (about a half-hour earlier than I normally would) and he got to sleep pretty quickly.
Yesterday while on post we went to the library and I checked out a new Baby Einstein DVD. This one is meant for babies about a year old, but it was the only other one they had that wasn't scratched like a used lotto ticket. He watched it for a bit this morning, but it's hard to tell if he liked it or not because of his grumpiness.
11:35 a.m. update: After Timmy woke up from his nap, he and I went for a walk down into nüdlingen. The walk only took an hour or so, but it was enough to remind me of why Germany is so cool. Almost everywhere we go, somebody gives Timmy something. At the grocery store where I had to pick up some soup vegetables, the cashier gave Timmy a bit of candy. At the bakery where I picked up some lunch, the baker gave Timmy a half of a croissant. These aren't isolated incidents, either. On average, about 50% of the time we go someplace on the economy, somebody gives Timmy something. On top of that, everybody we meet along the way, almost without exception, says hello. Even a few people driving in their cars recognize Timmy and I and wave. One of our neighbors who sits next to me in chuch, when he sees us walking, flashes his brights, honks his horn and waves like crazy.
